Filler Text Generator makes placeholder-style text in paragraphs, sentences or words, built from our own list of plain Latin words, ready to drop into a design mock-up. Designers, developers and writers use it to fill a layout before the real copy exists, so they can judge spacing, line length and the rhythm of a page without being distracted by meaning.
How to use
- Under Make, choose Paragraphs, Sentences or Words.
- Type How many you need. The allowed range is shown under the box.
- Tick Start with the classic opening to begin with the traditional first sentence, or clear it to start with random words.
- Read the text, with its count of paragraphs and words.
- Press Generate again for a fresh mix of words, or Copy text to put it on your clipboard. Paragraphs are separated by a blank line when copied.
Examples
Three paragraphs with the classic opening begin like this:
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Vox hora iter canis frater dies, carmen iter arbor.
Asking for 5 words with the opening ticked gives exactly the first five words of that line, ending with a full stop. Notice that every word after the opening comes from the same short Latin list, such as terra, lux and via.
Limits
You can make up to 100 paragraphs, 1,000 sentences or 10,000 words at once; those limits are our own choice. Each sentence has 6 to 14 words and each paragraph 4 to 7 sentences. The words are real Latin, but they are picked at random, so the sentences have no meaning and no grammar. There is no HTML output and no option for other languages.
FAQ
Is the text copied from a real book?
Only the optional opening line follows the traditional filler sentence. Everything after it is picked at random from a word list we wrote for this page.
Why do I see the same text each time I open the page?
The page always opens on the same starting point so it can show text before any script runs. Press Generate again to get a different mix.
Can I use the text in my work?
Yes. It is meaningless filler made on your device, so you can paste it anywhere you need sample copy.
