Images to GIF makes one animated GIF from several of your own pictures, showing them one after another with the delay you choose. It suits a before and after pair, the steps of a recipe or a craft, a product seen from several sides, or a short slideshow for a chat or a forum that takes GIF but not video. You set the order, the time each picture stays, the width and whether it loops.
How to use
- Drop two or more JPG, PNG or WebP pictures on the box, or click it to choose them. You can add more later.
- Put them in order with Up and Down, or take one out with Remove. Each row shows a small preview.
- Set the Frame delay in milliseconds: 500 shows each picture for half a second, 1000 for a second.
- Set the Width in pixels. The height follows the shape of the first picture.
- Choose Loop forever or Play once, press Make GIF, check the preview, then press Download.
Examples
Four pictures of 400 by 300 pixels with a 500 millisecond delay and a width of 480 give beach-animation.gif, named after the first picture: 480 by 360 pixels, 4 frames, 2 seconds a loop. A tall picture placed first gives a tall GIF, never more than 800 pixels high. A square picture in a wide GIF sits in the middle with white at its sides.
Limits
GIF can only hold 256 colours in each frame, so photos lose smooth shading and may show bands or dots, and GIF files are large for what they show; for photos, a short video is often a better choice. These limits are our own choices: 2 to 100 pictures, up to 25 MB each, a width of 50 to 800 pixels, and a delay of 20 to 10,000 milliseconds, stored in hundredths of a second. Transparent areas become white. Phones have less memory than computers and may fail earlier.
FAQ
Why do my photos look grainy in the GIF?
A GIF frame can use only 256 colours, picked from that picture. A photo has many more, so the nearest ones are used and nearby pixels mix them. Bold drawings and screenshots keep their look better.
Does the GIF play everywhere?
GIF89a animation is read by every common browser, chat app and image viewer. Some sites turn an uploaded GIF into a video and may change its speed or loop.
Are my pictures uploaded to make the GIF?
No. A background worker in this tab draws each frame and the gifenc library writes the file, on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
