Merge PDF joins several PDF files into a single PDF in your browser, in the order you choose. It is useful for putting scanned pages back together, collecting a report and its appendices, or sending one attachment instead of five. You can move files up and down and remove any you added by mistake before the merge, and the result tells you how many pages it has.
How to use
- Drop your PDF files on the box, or click it to choose them. Files that are not PDFs, or are too large, are listed with the reason.
- Check the numbered list. The PDFs are joined from top to bottom: use Up and Down to change the order, and Remove to take a file out. You can add more files at any time.
- Press Merge. A progress bar shows each file being added.
- When the merged PDF appears with its page count, press Download.
Examples
Three test PDFs, a.pdf with 3 pages, b.pdf with 2 pages and c.pdf with 1 page, merged in that order, give one file named a-merged.pdf with 6 pages: pages 1 to 3 from a.pdf, then 4 and 5 from b.pdf, then 6 from c.pdf. Move c.pdf to the top before merging and its page comes first instead. Notice that the name of the result comes from the first file in the list.
Limits
Each PDF may be up to 50 MB, and up to 20 PDFs can be merged at once, as Quick facts shows. A PDF protected with a password is refused with its name, because the tool cannot open it; remove the password in the program that made it first. A damaged file that cannot be read is refused the same way. Bookmarks, form fields that span files and the document outline may not carry over. Phones have less memory than computers, so large merges may fail on a phone before these limits.
FAQ
Are my PDFs uploaded to a server to merge them?
No. The files are read and joined by a background worker in your browser on this page. Nothing is sent anywhere, so confidential documents stay on your device.
Can I change the page order inside one PDF?
Not here. Merge PDF keeps the pages of each file in their own order and only arranges whole files. To take pages out first, use Split PDF on that file, then merge the parts.
Does merging lower the quality of my pages?
No. The pages are copied into the new file as they are, with their text, pictures and fonts unchanged, so nothing is compressed or redrawn.
